Afternoon Tea supports victims of disaster
Friends and members of Taunton Vale Rotary have donated almost £500 to the charity Shelterbox while taking Afternoon Tea in a Tent.
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity established by Rotarians here in the South West, that provides emergency shelter and other aid items to families around the world who have lost their homes to disaster or conflict.
Already this year shelter tents and other aid items have been distributed following earthquakes in Venezuela and Columbia, and also in Lebanon and other parts of the Middle East where thousands of homes have been destroyed by war.
Rotarian Richard Austin says: “Eating tea outdoors, under canvass is a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the millions of people across the world who’ve had their homes destroyed. “Few people can have failed to be moved by the pictures of the recent floods in Nepal and it is encouraging to know that Shelterbox already has a team on the ground and relief supplies are being delivered where most needed.”
