Walking the "Nordic" way
A group of Rotarians, partners and friends met at Crowcombe Park Gate on a damp evening for a short course in Nordic Walking. Instructor Hilary Coles, of Quantock Nordic, demonstrated the technique of walking with two poles (longer than normal walking sticks) that helps with an upright posture, breathing, and exercise of the upper body along with the legs. After a brief warm-up session we set off along the hillside towards Triscombe Stone. The undulations gave us chance to practice uphill and down. We returned to Crowcombe Park Gate via the Drove road for a round trip of just under 1 ½ miles. The evening became wetter as we adjourned to the Farmers Arms at Combe Florey for a little business, socialising and shepherds pie.
